Marianne Sihvonen is flutist, improviser and performer from Finland who navigates the realms of diverse creative disciplines.

She is passionate about giving a voice to the works of living composers and has premiered several new works by a new generation of composers, such as Sunleif Rasmussen, Ylva Fred, Ville Raasakka and Lauri Supponen, and is continuously working with new ones. In her personal compositions, Marianne intertwines improvisation on different flutes and vocals with electronic elements. Recent sources of inspiration include her Finnish and Sámi heritage, as well as her family's historical experiences under colonialism.

Collaborating closely with flutist Molly Påhlsson, Marianne co-creates for their innovative and forward-looking flute duo, MoMa. Marianne is also a dedicated environmentalist. As one half of flute and guitar duo, HΛV, with the Faroese guitarist Alvi Joensen, she brings attention to various environmental issues in Nordic countries. Marianne's artistic journey spans Northern Europe, with notable performances at venues such as the Moderne Mandag concert series in Denmark, Nordic House in the Faroe Islands, Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn, Malmö Live and Båstad Chamber Music Festival in Sweden, as well as the INN:PUST Festival in Norway, Sibelius Museum, and the Alexander Theatre in Finland.

Currently pursuing a Master's in Contemporary Performance and Composition (CoPeCo) at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon, and the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre, Marianne is also enrolled in the flute soloist diploma program at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus. Marianne has been named as one of ten Density Fellows from all over the world as part of Claire Chase’s Density 2036 Project where she will receive mentorship from Claire Chase towards performing works from her Density series.
